I was a senior research assistant at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from November of 1992, to September 1998. I worked in the Department of Carcinogenesis as a molecular biologist studying the molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis in the thymus. I have a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Clinical Biochemistry, and an MS in Bioreactor Systems. I started teaching step aerobics in December 1993, and I got certified by ACE (the American Council on Exercise) in May, 1994. In 1995, I became an ACE certified personal trainer, and in 1997, I got certified as an aquatics instructor by the AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association).

In the meantime, I took over the fitness program at the apartment complex I lived in (three sister properties then known as Dakota, Arizona and Indian Creek) currently known as Greystone Park, the Pointe and Indian Creek. I took the existing rudimentary program and added a variety of classes to appeal to all fitness levels and ages. I also supervised the acquisition of new weight room equipment for the Fitness Center. The Fitness Center is a fully equipped gym with free weights, a universal, an Olympic bench press, two bikes and a step machine.

In 1994, I initiated the aerobics program at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a satellite campus of UT Houston and the MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston. I taught three classes a week, all of which were a different format. In 1996, I received IDEA’s Make Fitness Happen Award for my efforts at the apartment complex and UTMDACC.

In 1996 and in 1997, I participated in the Workout for Hope and, for both years, I was the most successful fund raiser for Austin, TX.

I have been in the personal training business since 1995. I have had experience with a wide range of individuals, all with a special need or goal. I have helped people get into shape; I have trained people for triathlons, and for the Motorola Marathon; I have trained prenatal and postnatal women (including myself!); and I have trained seniors. I evaluate the client’s needs and goals, and design an appropriate personalized program for each individual – I strongly believe in the personal aspect of personal training, we’re not all the same!
